Family venture / Client zero Halal Nigerian catering, Hertfordshire

Aleerah Sugar & Spice

A cinematic, scroll-led website for a family-run halal Nigerian caterer in Hertfordshire. It opens on the food, explains event catering, weekend food and frozen boxes in one place, and leads to a written enquiry.

Relationship: Aleerah Sugar & Spice is a family business connected to the studio's founder. It is not an arm's-length client, and it is shown here as the studio's own first engagement.

Scope of work

  • Website strategy and structure
  • Art direction and food-led layout
  • Copywriting with the owners
  • Scroll motion and responsive build
  • Enquiry routes and structured data
  • Hosting set-up and deploy previews

The challenge

Nigerian catering is chosen on trust and appetite. A template with stock photography of generic dishes would undersell food that people recognise instantly when it is right, and the business offers several different things that needed explaining without a phone call.

The strategy

Lead with real dishes, then separate the offer into three clear routes: celebrations, weekend food and the freezer shop. Give catering its own packages so a host can understand scope and scale before getting in touch.

The design

Warm paper tones, an editorial serif and generous food photography. Signature dishes such as masa, the northern Nigerian rice cake, get their own chapter so the menu tells a story rather than reading as a price list.

The build

A static site with progressive scroll motion, a short occasion chooser that points visitors to the right route, three catering packages, a freezer-shop section and structured data describing the business. Published on its own domain, with changes reviewed through deploy previews before going live.

Outcomes

Live at aleerahsugarandspice.co.uk since the October 2026 redesign. We have not published enquiry or sales figures: no baseline was measured before launch, and we will not estimate one.

Key design decisions

Food before menus

The page opens on a plate of jollof, not a list of dishes. Recognition comes first; detail follows.

Three routes, not one form

Event catering, weekend food and frozen boxes are different decisions, so each gets its own path.

Packages in plain sight

Catering scope is laid out on the page so a host can judge fit before writing in.
